Whispering Woods Craft Festival

Come up and sit on the porch with us to hear us and hum or sing along with our dulcimer music.
 
There are two unrelated folk instruments called dulcimers. Most members of the Clarion Dulcimer Club play the three or four string mountain dulcimer, an American instrument developed in Appalachia about 175 years ago. A few members play the hammered dulcimer, the British Isles version of an instrument which originated in the Middle East about 1000 years ago. It is a trapezoidal instrument with 40 to 100 strings. Other members play autoharp, guitar and spoons.
 
The Clarion Dulcimer Club was formed in 1987 by Sally Ringland, for people who are interested in these traditional instruments and the old-fashioned music usually played on them. We are a small group, about a dozen active members, yet we have active members in Armstrong, Clarion, Crawford, Forest and Jefferson counties also. We serve our community by playing about once a month in nursing homes or at local events. We give demonstrations at meetings of church and community groups and at craft fairs.
